The year is 1861. Hervé Joncour is a French merchant of silkworms. The circumstances compel him to travel to Japan where legendary for the quality of its silk. There, Hervé meets a woman. They do not touch; they do not even speak. And he cannot read the note she sends him until he has returned to his own country. He beg Madam Blanche who is a Japanese living in France to translate the latter for him. The letter describe their sex relationship and let him believe he possessed the Japanese women. After his wife passed away, the wreath of tiny blue flowers in the cemetery let him realize Helen met Madam Blanche before. She ask Madam Blanche write that letter.
